Where to Visit: Diamond Head
Diamond Head sits prominently near the eastern edge of the Waikiki coastline on the island of Oahu. One of Hawaii’s most recognized landmarks, it is known for its historical hiking trail and breathtaking views.
The crater encompasses 475 acres and was said to be formed about 300,000 years ago. In 1908, the trail to the summit was built as a part of Oahu’s coastal defense system. The 0.8 mile hiking trail to the summit is very steep and uneven in areas. The last 1/10 of a mile of the trail is a very steep staircase that will lead you to a gorgeous view. Although the 0.8 mile hiking trail to the summit can be a challenge in the tropical heat, the unique views of Waikiki and ocean vistas are well worth the effort.
