Kalani is Celebrating 25 years of Aloha!
Kalani Packaging just turned 25—and we’re celebrating with gratitude, growth, and a whole lot of aloha.
In 2000, Shelly and Lono launched Kalani Packaging from their garage in Washington—with two young kids, one folding table, and a $5,000 credit card. Their first hire? Shelly’s dad, Harold. Three people, 1,500 sq ft, and more ambition than space.
Since then, Kalani has grown into a national MBE supplier with seven stocking locations and a dedicated Ohana delivering exceptional service. While our footprint has expanded, our foundation remains the same.
Kalani is built on Native Hawaiian values and the Aloha spirit, and has always been about partnerships. Guided by integrity, mutual respect, and a deep sense of Ohana – these values continue to shape how we collaborate, grow, and serve with purpose. “Kalani” means “Heavenly Place,” and we’ve worked to create a company where customers, suppliers, and our team feel the warmth of the Aloha spirit every day.
Our Ohana is the heart of Kalani. With an average employee tenure of over 13 years, (Debbie is celebrating her 20th year!) our team is more than coworkers—we’re family. Each member brings deep expertise, a commitment to excellence, and a shared belief in the power of relationships. We’re proud to still serve customers—who have become friends—from our 1st year in business, now working as an extension of their teams.
Our process-driven approach streamlines supply chains, improves lead times, and supports sustainability through smart packaging design and inventory management. We’ve been honored multiple times on the Puget Sound Business Journal’s lists of fastest-growing and largest family-owned businesses in Washington.
To everyone who’s supported us—mahalo nui loa. You’ve helped turn a humble garage dream into something extraordinary.
As we’ve grown, so has our commitment to kōkua—giving back to the communities that have supported us. Whether through local partnerships, charitable initiatives, or hands-on volunteer work, we believe in lifting others and creating positive impact beyond the packaging world.
